January garnets

It's the same every year.. we stress about Christmas, struggle to remember all the people to buy gifts for, run to the shops on Christmas Eve to get those last bits we forgot, then let out a sigh of relief on Boxing Day when it's all over. That is until we remember our friends and loved ones born in January. There has been no need to think about it just yet, their birthday isn't until next year, however all of a sudden next year is 4 days away!

A birthstone can be the perfect gift, not only is it a thoughtful present but it also has an added personal touch. For our friends born in the beginning of the year the birthstone is a garnet, symbolizing a light heart and loyalty, and bringing peace, prosperity and good will to the home.

Contrary to popular belief, not all garnets are red, in fact garnets display the greatest range of colours of any mineral; they come in a range of different colours, or even colourless. Unlike many other gemstones, garnets are not mined underground, but rather found as pebbles in streams.

The garnet has additionally been known to symbolize a long lasting friendship and trust, making it the perfect gift for your closest friends and loved ones.

Garnets range from a 7.0 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale of hardness and are found all over the world, from the Czech Republic, U.S. (Arizona), South Africa, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Myanmar (Burma), Scotland, Switzerland and even Tanzania . Garnets are formed when high temperatures and/or pressure is a factor and geologists often use garnets as a gauge of the amount of temperature and pressure that was present during their formation.

If you're looking for a different and thoughtful gift for someone born in January a gorgeous garnet could be the perfect way to make them smile.
