Tips for keeping your jewellery clean

In the wake of what is happening around the world with the coronavirus we thought we would give you some helpful tips for keeping your jewellery clean and practising good jewellery hygiene.

Most people wear their jewellery every day, whether it be rings, earrings, bracelets or necklaces and although we are sure everyone is always careful to be clean it is now more important than ever to make sure you are cleaning your jewellery.

Germs can harbour on any surface of jewellery as well as hiding under rings. Here are 3 tips we think you might find useful…

Take your jewellery off when you are washing your hands…
Germs could get stuck under a ring so slip it carefully down your finger or take it off and rinse it with soap and water before giving your hands a proper wash following the government guidelines.

Soak your ring when you get in from being outside…
Once you have returned from being outside take your ring/s off and soak them in a warm soapy solution before washing your hands. This will insure your jewellery is germ free and safe to put back on.

Give your jewellery a deep clean…
We recommend using dish soap, water, and a toothbrush, items you will already have at home! These are suitable for all types of jewellery. If you soak your items for 20 -40 minutes in very warm water with a tiny bit of fairy liquid you can then very carefully brush off any residue or germs left with a toothbrush to ensure they are squeaky clean! Then just rinse and pat dry with a soft cloth. We recommend putting the toothbrush in the dishwasher to then remove any germs after this or throw it away and use a new one next time.

Practising good hand hygiene is so important at the moment, we want to still look stylish and be safe!
