An eternity ring (also known as an infinity ring) symbolises a love that never ends. They are often given as an anniversary present, for the birth of a new baby, or just to show that special person in your life that your love endures.
The eternity ring is classic in design. Usually, but not exclusively, eternity rings are made with identically cut diamonds which are then spaced evenly all around a gold or platinum band. Sometimes the diamonds are only set in half of the band, with the remaining half of the and being left as plain gold or platinum. This type of ring is referred to as a ‘Half Eternity’. The close alignment of the diamonds coupled with an open backed setting creates exceptional sparkle from whichever angle the ring is viewed from.
Unlike Engagement rings, which appeared around the 15th century, eternity rings have been around much longer, even as long as 4000 years ago. These first eternity rings were not made of preciousmetals like they are today, but rather of materials which were available atthat time - carved bone, beads and only occasionally, metal. It isthought that the first eternity rings were exchanged in Ancient Egypt. Apopular symbol at that time was a snake biting its own tail, whichtranslates as a symbol of infinity.
Whilst there are no hard and fast rules on how to wear an eternity ring, the most popular way is to wear it on the ring finger on your left hand along with a wedding and engagement ring. The order in which the rings are worn is left up to the individual. They stack particularly well with diamond solitaires or traditional styles of three and five stone rings. Since wedding bands and eternity rings usually have the same profile, they almost always pair wonderfully.
