Gentleman's seal ring - Friar House

Gentleman's seal ring

Signet rings have played an historical role in the areas of business and politics. Gentlemen would display them as a seal featuring their family crest, emblem or monogram to sign legal or important documents, some of these being historically prominent and relevant even today. The ring would be dipped into a soft clay or melted wax, leaving an impression of the design which was considered to be the most official way of signing something. Used by officials and world leaders, the seal added authenticity as the ring itself had markings that identified the specific person or family the seal depicted.
