What does Jewellery mean to you?

Jewellery is a form of personal adornment, such as brooches, rings, necklaces, earrings, and bracelets. The word jewellery is derived from the word jewel, which was anglicized from the Old French jouel, (an object of beauty) and the Latin word jocale, meaning plaything.

Fine craftsmanship

Before modern manufacturing, jewellery making was the domain of master craftsmen learning their trade over a lifetime, starting with many years of apprenticeship. Production was highly skilled and pain staking with the results unique to each piece. Choosing an antique item of jewellery is a timeless investment.

Jewellery evokes emotions

Each piece of jewellery that we own can bring back different memories of an event, a place, a person, and a time in our life or a mood. Nothing expresses our uniqueness and personality like a treasured piece of jewellery.

Symbolism and commitment

Most women, if asked to choose one piece of jewellery to keep, would choose their wedding or engagement ring or something equally symbolic. It represents love, hope and optimism, regardless of how relationships end up. It can be a reminder of a time when you believed that anything is possible.

Love and being connected to past and current generations

Referring to the love of children, mothers, grandmothers and other relatives. Many women place great importance on an item of jewellery that has been passed down through generations or a special gift made by their children. Often these pieces are not for everyday wear and are kept in a jewellery box for special occasions.

A legacy for future generations

Often a buyer of jewellery will place importance on the piece being classic and timeless, choosing something that has longevity and that can be passed down to other family members. The thought of passing something down for another family member to wear can be a strong influence on choice.

This equally applies to men passing down a watch between fathers and sons.

Success

At the other end of the spectrum a purchase of jewellery can be for something that has been coveted for many years – often a brand piece is selected. Many can identify with unwrapping the famous blue box. Generally this will a piece that you have bought for yourself to celebrate a business event or other significant event in your life.

Just because…

Enjoy jewellery and the pleasure of it for its own sake whether a vintage, modern or handmade piece with precious gemstones or interesting semi-precious stones. Wear it because it looks fabulous and makes you feel special.
